Black LGBTQ individuals have to carry the burden and work of navigating a racist society, and also contend with transphobic and homophobic violence. This societal syndemic shows up in all facets of life, and even within the LGBTQ community itself.
While we are seeing uprisings, and revolutionary push back against a system of oppression that is integral to how this country operates. Black LGBTQ citizens are pushing to broaden the dialogue to explicitly include their narratives and voices.
